Hampden Academy announces graduation speakers

HAMPDEN, Maine — Hampden Academy will hold its graduation exercises at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 10. Tickets are required for admittance to graduation. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m.

The following students will speak at graduation:

Helene Sherburne, daughter of Stuart and Katharine Sherburne of Winterport, will give the valedictory address. She plans to attend Dartmouth College in the fall to study French and economics.

While at Hampden Academy, she has participated in cross country, basketball, outdoor track and tennis. Sherburne also has been involved in Student Council, French Club, mentoring and National Honor Society.

Helena Tatgenhorst, daughter of Anne and Jim Tatgenhorst of Winterport, will deliver the salutatory address. She will attend Smith College in the fall.

During her four years at Hampden Academy, Tatgenhorst has been a member of the cross country team, ski team, swim team, outdoor track and math team and helped mentor foreign exchange students. She is president of the French club and secretary for both the National Honor Society and Tri-M music honors society. She has been involved in the arts, participating in Chorus, Voices Unlimited, many Hampden Academy plays, and honors orchestras outside of school.

Christin Casavant, daughter of David and Donna Casavant of Hampden, is the honor essayist for the 2012 graduating class of Hampden Academy. She will attend Seton Hill University to study music education.

Casavant plays flute and piccolo in Symphonic Band, plays piano in Jazz Ensemble and sings in Chamber Singers and Voices Unlimited. She has participated in the drama club at Hampden Academy for four years.
