Hermon High School announces Class of 2012 honor parts

HERMON, Maine — Principal Brian M. Walsh has announced the honor parts for the Hermon High School graduating Class of 2012. Commencement ceremonies will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Bangor Auditorium.

Casie Frederick, daughter of Kenneth and Danica Frederick of Hermon, has been named valedictorian of her class. She will attend Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y., to study English literature.

She participated in varsity cheerleading for four seasons, during three of which her team won state championships. She was a member of the Show Choir, Key Club, Student Council, French Club, Human Equality and Rights Team, outdoor track and field, and served as captain of the varsity soccer team the past two seasons. Frederick received the Maine Principal’s Association Award, was a state finalist in the Wendy’s Heisman competition, and won her school’s Voice of Democracy writing contest. She was named Student of the Month four times and was consistently on the honor roll throughout her high school career. She was class treasurer for four years and was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior.

Frederick served at Manna, volunteered at Ecotat Gardens and Arboretum and Treeworgy Family Orchards, and participated in Salvation Army bell-ringing, which led to completing more than 150 hours of community service. She volunteered as a camp counselor for vacation bible school and youth cheering, and instructs horseback riding lessons at Tykenbay Acres.

Audrey Elizabeth Cliff, daughter of Terrence and Colleen Cliff of Hermon, has been named salutatorian of her class. She will attend the University of Maine in Orono, majoring in psychology.

She has been recognized for outstanding achievement in honors and AP classes such as AP Calculus, AP Literature and Composition, Honors Physics, Honors Biology, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Algebra II and Honors Geometry.

Cliff received the general excellence award her freshman and sophomore year as well as multiple awards for attitude and effort. She also was recognized for her fine character, service, scholarship and leadership by being inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year.

She has been a dedicated member of Key Club and French Club the past four years and a member of the Human Equality and Rights Team the past two years. She has been a Student Council representative for three years and was elected president her senior year.

Cliff also participated in varsity soccer and indoor track and field and served as captain for each her senior year. She was named All-Conference Second Team in pole vault. She participated in varsity tennis for the past four years and was captain her junior and senior year.

Cliff is a frequent volunteer, with more than 100 hours of community service, including volunteering for OHI and at the Summer Special Olympics in Orono.
