Brewer High School announces Class of 2012 honor parts

BREWER, Maine — Brewer High School Principal Rebecca Bubar has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2012. The commencement ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine in Orono. Tickets are required.

Yuhi Sasaki, son of Michiyuki and Kumiko Sasaki of Brewer, will deliver the valedictory address at commencement. He will attend Virginia Tech, majoring in aerospace engineering.

Over the course of Sasaki’s high school career, he has received the Maine Principal’s Association Leadership Award, the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award and the Lesley M. Ohmart Jr. Athlete of the Year Award. He has been a four-year recipient of the Superintendent’s Certificate, the Academic B Letter and the Triathlete Letter.

He has received departmental awards in mathematics, physical education and science. He was selected for membership in the National Honor Society and the Se Beowulf English Club and was named a school ambassador. He has been a four-year member of the soccer, basketball, baseball and math teams. Sasaki was named a Penobscot Valley Conference scholar-athlete and a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference academic top scholar.

Alekzander E. Sayers, son of David and Kelley Sayers of Brewer, has been named salutatorian and will deliver the President’s Message at commencement. He will attend Barry University, majoring in theater.

Over the course of Sayers’ high school career, he has received the Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Award, the William’s College Book Award and the School Climate Award. He has been a four-year recipient of the Superintendent’s Certificate and the Academic B Letter.

He has received departmental awards in Chorus, Drama and AP Macroeconomics. He was selected as a school ambassador, a member of the National Honor Society and a participant at Dirigo Boy’s State. Sayers was elected as class president by his peers for four years. He has been a participant on both mock trial and math teams. Sayers has participated in Brewer Youth Theatre and One-Act Play, receiving All Festival Cast recognition at both the regional and state level. Sayers was named a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference academic top scholar.
