ASHLAND, Maine — A division of an Ashland-based lumber company has been purchased by a land and timber management company based in Bangor.
Seven Islands Land Company, a family-owned business managing forests and timber in Maine since 1840, announced Tuesday that it had acquired MooseWood Hardwood Flooring, a line of Kelly Lumber Sales Inc.
John McNulty, president of Seven Islands Land Company, said Tuesday that the acquisition process began three months ago and that Seven Islands has been operating under an agreement for the past three weeks.
“This continues our investment in northern Maine and the people of Aroostook County,” he said. “This brings a value-added component to our timber resources and supports jobs in the heart of Maine’s northern forest.”
Seven Islands intends to keep MooseWood’s current workforce of 16 employees while investing in operations and strengthening distribution of the premium hardwood flooring.
MooseWood flooring will continue to provide an exclusive Forest Stewardship Council certified line of finished and unfinished maple, birch and oak flooring.
“Right now, we are starting to see an upswing in orders,” McNulty said Tuesday. “If that continues, we plan to expand our workforce and grow this business in the long term.”
He added that the spirit and work ethic of the Aroostook County workforce was attractive to the company.
MooseWood Hardwood Flooring was established in 2004 and is available in more than three thousand locations across the northeastern U.S.
