ROCKLAND, Maine — Three new businesses soon will open in three previously vacant buildings in town.

Applications for permits from the code enforcement office were filed last week.

One application is by Aaron’s Inc. to open a store that rents furniture, home appliances and other items. Aaron’s wants to open its store at 47 Maverick St. where Movie Gallery operated until it closed in May 2010.

Aaron’s is based in Atlanta and has more than 1,800 stores in the United States and Canada.

Another application before the code office is for a fitness center at the former Maine Department of Transportation office building at 143 Rankin St.

Korinn Scattoloni said she plans to open Korinnsdance, Art & Fitness Center on July 1.

There will be 11 faculty members, she said.

And the third application is by Emily Jenks to provide ballet instruction and etiquette instruction at 8 Lindsey St.

Jenks has operated the Rockland School of Ballet for 11 years at the Lincoln Street Center but the Lincoln Street Center will be closing June 30.

Jenks said she plans to open July 2 at the new location.
