Maine Democrats in second day of convention

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Democratic Convention is in its second day, with delegates getting charged up for the national and state political campaigns ahead.

About 1,500 delegates were signed up to attend the gathering in the Augusta Civic Center. Saturday’s high points will be speeches by the party’s four candidates for Maine’s open U.S. Senate seat, and an evening address by Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.

On Friday, Maine’s two Democratic U.S. representatives, Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree, spoke to the delegates.

Pingree said her party can win back Congress, the Legislature and return President Barack Obama to the White House. Michaud warned that Republicans will fight hard to keep control in the State House and U.S. House.
