MILLINOCKET – Fordy was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Plymouth, son Herbert M. and Evelyn (Harding) Malcolm. He died May 31, 2012, at Togus Veterans Affairs Hospice Unit.
After growing up and working on the family farm, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Hilda M. Stewart in August 1944. He worked various jobs until settling in Millinocket in 1956, where he worked for Millinocket Community Hospital. He worked for Millinocket Fire Department from 1966 until 1980 when he retired after a career ending accident. He was a member of various organizations including a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Pioneer Hose Co. No. 1. Fordy knew the Katahdin country like the back of his hand. He spent many years hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors with friends and family, especially his friend, Jimmy Ebbett. After his retirement Fordy and Hilda spent many summers camping at Jo-Mary Lake Campground and traveling around the country on bus tours. He loved family gatherings where he played with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Fordy is survived by his sons, Florian Jr. and his wife, Hilda, and Thomas and his wife, Christy; his daughter-in-law, Lillian Malcolm-James; grandchildren, Joseph and his wife, Nancy, Stephen and his wife, Stephanie, Alexander, Andrew, Alan Jr., Kylan and Kaitlyn; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan, David, Michael, Cade, Sammy, Conner and Claire. He is also survived by his wife, Karen of Warren; and his brothers and sister, Ralph, Robert, Fred, Shirley Hopkins, Herbert and Richard. Fordy was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Hilda, in 1996; his son, the Rev. Dr. Alan Malcolm Sr., in 2000; and his sisters, Flora Erskine, Hattie Levinson, Annie Fitzsimmons and Phyllis Valyear.
Friends and family may call 2-8 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, officiated by his grandson, Pastor Stephen Malcolm. Interment will be afterward at Millinocket Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a get-together after the interment at Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene, Forest Avenue, Millinocket.
