BELFAST, Maine — A local man was arrested and charged with domestic violence-related crimes early Thursday morning after allegedly kicking and dragging a woman around their Lincolnville Avenue home.

Adam D. Clark, 26, whose listed address is in Camden, reportedly arrived home intoxicated Wednesday night and provoked a fight with the woman.

“He threw his keys on the ground and began yelling at her,” Chief Mike McFadden of the Belfast Police Department said.

The woman told police later that she tried to call her mother and text her friend, but Clark kept grabbing the phone. He then allegedly called her child a bastard, and the woman became angry and slapped his face.

“He dragged her down the hall, causing injuries and bruises and scrapes,” McFadden said. “He ended up on top of her and proceeded to kick her.”

Clark then threw the phone at the wall, hitting a light with it. He also reportedly slammed a window shut, breaking it, and then slammed a door, breaking the window on the door.

Officer Brad Hanson saw visible bruises on the woman when he responded to the call. He checked the two children who were home and wrote in his report that they appeared to be fine.

Clark denied having assaulted the woman but Hanson said that he concluded that he had been the predominant aggressor.

Clark was charged with domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal mischief. He was booked at Waldo County Jail in Belfast and was released on $300 cash bail.
