BANGOR, Maine — The man who grabbed cash from the hands of another man while riding the elevator at Hollywood Casino Hotel and Raceway on Wednesday night was caught on video surveillance cameras, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.
Police are preparing to release a digital image of the thief, who committed the theft at around 7:10 p.m., the sergeant said. He is described as a male of average build with light facial hair, wearing a green baseball cap, green T-shirt, white basketball shorts decorated with blue and green on the sides, and dark sneakers. The thief also was wearing sunglasses, Edwards said.
“A guy was on the elevator and counting his money, and there was another guy in there at the same time, and apparently just as the door opened, he snatched it as he ran out,” Sgt. Larry Weber said Wednesday night.
The two men were riding the elevator down when the crime occurred, Edwards said.
“The victim tried to chase him but gave up after a little bit,” the sergeant said.
Police, who are not releasing the amount of cash taken, searched the general area, including Dutton, Buck, Lincoln and Main streets for the criminal.
Police were searching the area when two men, one believed to be armed with a handgun, robbed the Rite Aid pharmacy located on the corner of Union and Fourteenth streets. Both men were caught shortly afterward.
