Lincoln school announces honor parts

LINCOLN, Maine — Mattanawcook Academy Principal Henry Pietra announced that Connor Smart was named valedictorian and Asiya Sbayi was named salutatorian for the graduating class of 2012.

Smart is the son of Jeff and Margaret Smart of Lincoln. He has been a member of the golf team and captain of the varsity tennis team. He also participated in the school bands and production of “Bye-Bye Birdie.” He has received many academic awards during his high school years. This year he was the recipient of the Principal’s Award. He will attend the University of Maine in the Honors College in September to study finance and accounting.

Sbayi is the daughter of Dr. Samer and Rania Tayara Sbayi of Lincoln. She served as president of the National Honor Society and has received many awards in mathematics and French. She was an honor roll student all four years of high school and teaches at the Islamic Weekend School in Orono. She will attend the University of Maine in September to pursue a degree in biochemistry.
