AUGUSTA, Maine — MaineGeneral Medical Center is trimming 47 jobs in a cost-cutting move aimed at meeting its operating budget for the coming fiscal year.

The Augusta hospital said 15 jobs are being eliminated and 32 vacant positions won’t be filled.

President and CEO Chuck Hays told the Kennebec Journal the reduction affects both MaineGeneral Medical Center and its parent organization, MaineGeneral Health.

Earlier this month, Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor announced it was eliminating nine positions, several of which were vacant, because of budget pressures.
