BAILEYVILLE – Harold Roderick passed away April 16, 2012, after a 10-year battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 29, 1925.
Harold leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Barbara. He also leaves two sons, Craig Sr. and Rod; along with a daughter, Linda Thompson. He had eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He served time in both the U.S. Navy and Army during the European and Pacific wars. He was assigned to the 6th Beach Battalion and was in the "first wave" during the invasion of Omaha Beach, Normandy, France, where he was wounded in action. He was also assigned to the 293 JASCO in the Pacific during the liberation of the Philippines. He was honorably discharged from the Navy, Nov. 25, 1945. He then went on to work for U.S. Border Patrol. He retired from Border Patrol in Calais in 1977.
Harold will be buried June 6 at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans: DAV-Dept. of Maine, P.O. Box 3415, Augusta, ME 04330.
