ROCKLAND, Maine — An 18-year-old Waldoboro man is behind bars after police said he walked, with two other men, into the bedroom of his ex-girlfriend and beat a man in bed with her.

Zacariah I. Sawyer, 18, of Waldoboro was arrested Tuesday on charges of burglary, aggravated criminal trespass, criminal mischief and assault.

According to reports filed by deputies with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Sawyer went to the residence in Cushing about 2 a.m. Friday, May 18, with two other men, saying he wanted to collect money from his former girlfriend for a vehicle. Sawyer reportedly went into the house, went into the bedroom, turned on a light and knocked everything off the dresser.

Sawyer then punched the man in bed with the woman four or five times in the face before one of the men accompanying Sawyer told him to stop and led him out of the house.

Sawyer also is accused of taking a rock and smashing out the rear and front windows of a pickup truck at the home.

Later Friday, one of the two men with Sawyer — James Tynan — was arrested, accused of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal liability. After reviewing the police reports, however, the district attorney’s office declined to file criminal charges against Tynan, 18, of Waldoboro, and he was released from jail.

The third man who went to the house also was questioned but was not charged.

Sawyer was released on bail Wednesday.
