Rich Kimball’s drive-time radio sports talk show will be expanding.

Downtown with Rich Kimball, which airs from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday on Fox Sports Net AM 910 WAEI Bangor, will also be heard on WFAU-AM 1280 in Gardiner/Augusta, WIGY-FM 97.5 Madison-Skowhegan and WRKD-AM 1450 in Rockland beginning on June 25.

“I’m very excited,” said Kimball, whose show debuted on Sept. 6. “It’s a good opportunity to spread to other areas in the state. We’ll gain new listeners and new advertisers.”

Bruce Biette, the chief operations officer for Blueberry Broadcasting, which owns the Fox Sports Maine stations, explained the thought occurred to him that “this is a good show, it’s a really topical show and it’s not just about Bangor. So much of what we do [on our Fox Sports Maine stations] mirrors each other.”

Biette also said another intriguing part of the show is “it’s not just about sports. There’s other interesting things like lifestyle stuff. Rich is able to tie everything together nicely.”

Kimball said they will maintain their current format, focusing on the New England sports scene (Boston pro teams) and the University of Maine, but they will also venture into topics involving their new listening areas.

“We have a segment on arts in Bangor so we’ll find out about the arts scene in those [new] areas,” explained Kimball, who will have guests from his new regions.

Biette feels Kimball will be well-received.

“He has the ability to pull off a talk show like this one very well,” said Biette. “He’s well-read and well-rounded. His shows flow really well. He’s very entertaining and informative at the same time.”

Kimball said the expansion will give the show “more credibility.”
