NEWPORT, Maine — The Newport Police Department made three burglary arrests in two days, Chief Leonard Macdaid said Wednesday.
On Monday afternoon, Lt. Randy Wing executed a search warrant at 19 Hart St., where stolen property was recovered.
Dylan Sampson, 20, of Newport was arrested and charged with Class C burglary.
“[Lt. Wing] did a real good job to solve [the case of] that house that was broken into,” Macdaid said.
On Tuesday evening, Newport police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at 59 South St.
“[The homeowner] was actually in the house when they were breaking into his barn,” Macdaid said. “He called us and we caught them as they were taking off.”
Maine State Police Trooper Christopher Carr pulled over the two suspects on Madawaska Avenue in Palmyra and they were turned over to Newport police.
Brian Cowan, 23, of Palmyra and Jeremy Lester, 23, of Burnham were both charged with Class C burglary and Class D theft. Cowan also was charged with violation of a condition of release.
Cowan and Lester were taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor. Newport police Officer Kenny Williams assisted on the arrest.
