HERMON, Maine — Town councilors will conduct a series of public hearings as part of their regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the public safety building.
One of the hearings will provide the community information about plans to build a sidewalk, crosswalks and curb cuts in the town’s village area.
According to the hearing notice that the town issued recently, the sidewalk will run from around Hermon High School to Billings Road on the east side of Route 2. A partial sidewalk is being designed for the opposite side of the street.
The topic of the next hearing is a proposed ordinance that would exempt active-duty military personnel from excise taxes.
The exemption would apply to vehicles owned by Hermon residents who are on active duty in the U.S. armed forces and permanently stationed outside of Maine or deployed for 180 days or more.
Two other hearings will involve a fire protection ordinance and the budget warrant for the coming fiscal year.
More information about the meeting can be found on the town’s website at www.hermon.net.
