NEWPORT, Maine — Two serious car crashes happened within a half-hour of each other along Route 7 on Sunday morning, Newport Police Chief Leonard Macdaid said Monday.

Lynne Snow, 66, of Dover-Foxcroft fell asleep at the wheel of her 2010 Hyundai at 10:50 a.m., Macdaid said. He said Snow woke up in the opposite lane, overcorrected her car and wound up in the right-side ditch. The car rolled and came to rest on the driver’s side.

An ambulance was called but Snow refused treatment, Macdaid said. She complained of soreness in her body and arms.

At 11:12 a.m., a car was rear-ended along the same road, Macdaid said.

Anita Morales, 59, of Corinna was stopped in her 2002 Chrysler and was preparing to turn left into the Dog House Drive-In when she was rear-ended by Jerome Moore, 84, of Dixmont, who was driving a 1994 Honda.

“He failed to see her in the road,” Macdaid said.

Both complained of neck injuries and were taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield.

No charges were filed against any driver. All of the vehicles were demolished, said Macdaid.
