BANGOR — Most people are coping with a down economy, with unemployment a fact of life for many.

Yet hope springs eternal: That’s the message behind the 15th Annual Bangor Career and Resource Fair, to be held 1-4 p.m., May 17, at Spectacular Event Center.

The event is sponsored by the Career Center, the Bangor Daily News, Eastern Maine Development Corp., Greater Penobscot Continuum of Care, and the Maine Department of Labor.

The fair is set up to help both employers and potential employees. “It’s for employers looking to fill positions, but there’s also a resource component for those looking for work and wanting to change careers,” explained Paul Ruggiero, a consultant at the Bangor-based Tri-County CareerCenters of the Maine Department of Labor.

Among the 35 employers confirmed for the event are AFLAC, Arbonne, Augusta Electrical JATC, Bangor Police Department, Blueberry Broadcasting, BONNEY Staffing Center, Care & Comfort, Cianbro, Cumulus Broadcasting, Charlotte White Center, Downeast Horizons, Eastern Maine Medical Center,Employment Specialists of Maine, Inc., FedEx Ground, Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway, Insphere Insurance Solutions, Jackson Laboratory, Kelly Services, Lane Construction Corporation, Lee Credit Now, L.L. Bean, Manpower, MAS Home Care of Maine, MERT Enterprises, MRC Electronic Repairs, NachoTree Print & Digital Design, SKILLS, Inc., Time Warner Cable, UCP Of Maine, University of Maine, Verizon Wireless, VIP Inc., Wal-Mart, and Woodlands Assisted Living of Brewer.

“It’s encouraging to see the employers that come out,” Ruggiero said, “so we’re happy.”

Organizers are hoping for around 500 attendees for the event.

The fair jibes perfectly with the Career Center’s mission. “Our goal is to provide employment information to the local community,” Ruggiero said.
