Bangor music students play the Pops

By Debra Bell, Of The Weekly Staff

The award-winning Bangor Schools Music Department will awaken spring with a Pops Night to be held at 7 p.m., May 11, in the Bangor High School Cafeteria. Admission is $5 per person. The event is hosted by the Bangor High Music Boosters.

The annual Pops Night concert features student performances from the middle school jazz bands and jazz choirs, the high school jazz band, jazz choir, and orchestra. This concert is a tradition and a way to celebrate the culmination of a year of musical training.

This year’s Pops Night concert will also feature a silent and live auction filled with a wide array of items donated by local businesses and local celebrities.

Some donated items include a “Dinner with the Smileys” package; a “Nite Show” Experience Package; four passes for 18 holes of golf with a golf cart from Penobscot Valley Country Club; an hour of guest hosting on the Mike and Mike Radio Show on 94.5FM; an oil change and front end alignment from Kontio’s Automotive in Hermon; a tux rental from The Henry’s Formalwear; art from Schwarcz Photography; and gift certificates from Anthony John’s Day Spa, L Factor, and Dysarts.

Funds raised from the auction will offset costs related to the recent trip made by the Bangor High School Music Department to the Heritage Music Festival in New York City. The festival brought together student musical groups from across the country to compete for top honors.

Tickets to Pops Night are available only at the door. Credit cards, checks, and cash will be accepted for the silent auction.
