AUGUSTA, Maine — An Augusta man police say participated in the robbery of two city pharmacies has been ordered held on $50,000 cash bail.

Carmine Fazzi Jr. made an initial court appearance Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court by video from the next-door jail, where he has been held since Friday after being extradited from New York.

Authorities allege the 19-year-old Fazzi robbed the CVS on Stone Street on Feb. 13 and the Rite Aid on North Belfast Avenue on Feb. 20.

Prescription painkillers were stolen from both locations.

The prosecutor said in both cases the robber claimed to have a handgun.

The Kennebec Journal reported that Fazzi’s attorney asked that he be able to seek lower bail at a future date.
