Marcus Davis of Bangor celebrates his first-round KO victory over Jason Tan at Ultimate Fighting Championship 72 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 2007.

DUBLIN, Ireland — Veteran Bangor-area mixed martial artist Marcus “The Irish Hand Grenade” Davis returned to his ancestral roots Sunday evening but lost via a first-round knockout to Mark Casserly in their ISKA light cruiserweight kickboxing world title match at the National Basketball Arena.

The 38-year-old Davis, a former professional boxer and UFC-level combatant in the mixed martials arts arena, began the opening round circling his taller opponent and trying to use his boxing skills to close in on Casserly.

But about 2 minutes into the first round, Casserly struck with a single high right leg kick to Davis’ left jaw, prompting an immediate end to the fight.
