WATERVILLE, Maine — The Maine Sports Hall of Fame Awards Banquet is scheduled for May 20 at the Bangor Civic Center and tickets remain available for the 37th annual event.
Tickets are $40 for members of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame and $45 for nonmembers. A reserved table of 10 is $400.
Deadline for tickets is May 13, and ticket orders can be mailed to the Maine Sports Hall of Fame, Attn: Banquet Ticket Sales, P.O. Box 8554, Portland, ME 04104. They also can be purchased online by going to www.mshof.com/Home-Page-4 and clicking on the Banquet Tickets button.
The hall will be inducting eight new members plus recognizing four scholar-athletes and two President’s Award recipients.
Former University of Maine football coach Walter Abbott of Orono heads the list of inductees. The other inductees are Emily Ellis of Bangor, who was a star women’s basketball player at UMaine in the early 1980s; Dana Wilson of Brewer, a prolific scorer for the Husson University men’s basketball team in the early ’70s; former boys basketball coach Ed Guiski of Kennebunk, coach of the year from 1984 to ’86 while at Dexter High; former UMaine star baseball player Dennis Libbey of Bangor; former UMaine standout running back Phillip Coulombe of Sidney; Matt Hancock of Casco, the 1990 NCAA Division III men’s basketball player of the year for Colby College in Waterville; and Howard Vandersea of Brunswick, the longtime football coach at Bowdoin College.
Wayne Lawton and Keith Mahaney, both of Bangor, will receive the President’s Award. Both were longtime members of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame board of directors.
The scholar-athletes are Seth Sweet of Madison, Carylanne Wolfington of Hall-Dale in Farmingdale, Jordan Hersom of Leavitt of Turner Center and Patrick LaChance of St. Dominic of Auburn.
