Police arrest Old Town man accused of violating protection order

ORONO, Maine — An Old Town man who police say has continuously harassed a woman through email and social networking has been arrested after allegedly violating the protection order she had against him.

John Selman, 35, was prohibited from contacting the woman, according to Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing. When she allegedly received messages from him through email and Facebook, the woman contacted police.

“He was interviewed by Sergeant [Scott] Scripture and arrested for violation of harassment order,” Ewing said.

Selman is facing a charge of violating a protection order, a Class E misdemeanor. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Wednesday afternoon pending a court appearance.

Ewing said Selman and the woman have never had any type of relationship, “but it’s possible that he wanted to have a relationship with her.”

“She felt the behavior was a little too much so she got the harassment order against him and he didn’t abide by it,” said Ewing.
