By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. cited high winds as the cause of scatter outages Friday night that affected nearly 1,500 customers in Hancock and Penobscot counties.

In an outage alert issued at 8 p.m., spokeswoman Susan Faloon said that the affected areas include Millinocket, Old Town and Ellsworth and that customers in many areas reported fallen trees on power lines.

Most of the 1,419 customers without power were in Hancock County, where 1,104 customers were affected. The rest were in Penobscot County.

Power was expected to be restored to most if not all of the affected customers by about 10:30 p.m.
