Wealth management firm names new president

PORTLAND, Maine — Geoffrey Alexander recently was named president of R.M. Davis Inc., a wealth management company with headquarters in Portland. Alexander, who has worked with the firm since 1997 and is one of eight owners, has been vice president and portfolio manager. Robert M. “Mal” Davis, the firm’s founder and CEO, will remain CEO.

“I have complete confidence in Geoff Alexander’s ability to step into the role of president. He has been an exceedingly valuable member of the leadership team for 15 years and has the vision and natural ability necessary to continue to watch over the growth of the company,” Davis said in a press release.

As president, Alexander will be chairman of the executive committee and oversee ongoing operations of the company. He will be responsible for guiding and implementing policies that support the firm’s client-focused mission and watching over the firm’s continued growth, according to the release. Alexander also will continue to work directly with clients in the portfolio management role.

Alexander formerly worked for the General Dynamics Marine Services Division of Bath Iron Works. He is a graduate of Colby College, and earned his Master of Business Administration from Boston University. Alexander is a member of the Boston and New York Security Analysts Society, the Maine CFA Society and the Maine Estate Planning Council.

He also has served on several community boards and advisory committees, including the United Way, Cumberland YMCA, The Park Danforth, Maine Medical Center, The Thomas Memorial Library Foundation and the Maine Maritime Museum’s Board of Trustees.

Data coordinator, valuation specialist hired at BerryDunn

PORTLAND, Maine — Nicole Barnes of Gray has been hired as a data coordinator with the marketing group for BerryDunn, a firm of certified public accountants and consultants. Prior to joining the firm, Barnes worked for DMM in Scarborough. She is a graduate of Unity College and specializes in data management.

Lydia H. Atwood has joined the firm’s valuation and forensic services group. Prior to joining BerryDunn, Atwood was the chief financial officer for Criterium Engineers and has extensive background in banking, consulting and specialized financial analysis. She has a Master of Business Administration in finance and marketing from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Tufts University.

Camden National Bank names commercial regional manager for Bangor

BANGOR, Maine — Steve Thomas has been named vice president, commercial regional manager for Camden National Bank’s Bangor region. Thomas, based in Bangor, oversees commercial banking in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.

Thomas joined Camden National in 2009 as vice president and commercial loan officer. Thomas has served as vice president and business banking relationship manager for Key Bank and assistant vice president and commercial relationship manager at Bangor Savings Bank prior to joining the Camden National team.

Thomas earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Maine with a concentration in finance. He has served as president of the Bangor Humane Society since 2009, and lives in Hermon with his wife and their three children.

Varney Buick GMC named one of General Motors’ Dealers of the Year

BANGOR, Maine — Rick Varney at Varney Buick GMC in Bangor has been named one of General Motors’ Dealers of the Year. Varney Buick GMC was the only GM dealer in Maine to receive the award this year, according to a press release from Varney’s. It’s the eighth time Varney and the dealership have received this recognition from. GM has recognized dealerships in the U.S. with this honor since 2000. A spokesman said in the press release that the company gives this award to only 2 percent of its dealerships nationwide.

Contractor honored by metal building systems developer

The Sheridan Corp., a general contracting company located in Fairfield and Portland, has been named Northern Region Volume Builder of the Year by Butler Manufacturing, a division of BlueScope Buildings North America, Inc., a world leader in the development and manufacture of metal building systems.

Bob Adrasto, northern regional general manager, and Melissa Stewart, northern regional sales manager, presented the award to the company at Butler’s 2012 national sales meeting held in San Diego, Calif., to Brad Nelson, president; Mitch Sammons, senior vice president; and Dan Wildes, vice president of construction with Sheridan.

Sheridan’s recent projects that used Butler building components include Bangor Air National Guard Maintenance Hangar, University of New England’s new Harold Alfond Forum Athletic Center in Biddeford, Linda Bean’s Perfect Maine lobster warehouse in Rockland, Waldo County Hospital Medical Office Building in Belfast, Dearborn Precision’s addition in Fryeburg, Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter in Waterville, Delta Ambulance in Waterville, and O’Connor Chevy-GMC-Buick in Augusta.

The designation was awarded to one Butler Builder in the Northern region who excels in the sale of Butler building and roof systems as well as demonstrates superior marketing skills, according to a company press release. Butler Manufacturing has six regions in the United States and Canada.

The Sheridan Corporation was established in 1947 and has been marketing and building Butler buildings since its inception.

United Way of Greater Portland staff announcements

PORTLAND, Maine — United Way of Greater Portland announces the following new hires:

Carrie Zeisse of Boston, Mass., and Cape Elizabeth has been hired as senior vice president of operations. She most recently was director of finance at the United South End Settlements, and prior to that was vice president of economic development for the Boston Harbor Island Alliance. She holds an Master of Business Administration from the Sloan School of Management at MIT and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maine College of Art.

Sadie Kitchen of Yarmouth has been hired as administrative assistant. She previously was an English professor at Xingtan College in Qufu, Shandang Province, China.
