BREWER, Maine — Boy Scout Mason Duplissie of Troop 1 in Brewer recently earned the rank of Life Scout and has received permission from the Katahdin Area Council to begin his Eagle Scout project. His project, in coordination with the Brewer Public Library, is to oversee the building of a replacement for the library’s current picnic table.
The new table will be made of cedar and pressure treated wood, and measure four feet by eight feet. The table will be constructed in a 7½-foot-tall overhead shelter. The table and shelter project will be mounted on a 6-by-10-foot concrete base. The projected cost of the project is $2,000 and is expected to be completed by the Fourth of July, in time for the Brewer bicentennial celebration.
Mason’s project is dedicated in memory of John Goodness of Brewer, a strong supporter of Boy Scouts and the Brewer Library.
Those who wish may send donations for the project to Brewer Public Library, 100 South Main St., Brewer 04412, in care of the Eagle Project. Some area businesses have expressed support and have committed resources to assist in completion of the project. To raise funds for the project, a bottle drive will be conducted April 25-May 6. Bottles may be placed in a collection trailer at 76 Washington St. in Brewer during those weeks. Any funds remaining after the completion of the project will be donated to the Brewer Library.
Mason is the son of Kay and Kevin Duplissie of Brewer.
