EAST WINDSOR, Conn. – Marvin L. Barnes, 80, loving husband to Marie (Bascom) Barnes, died peacefully Saturday, April 21, 2012, at home with his family. Marvin was born Sept. 11, 1931, in Washburn, son of the late Ervin and Ruth (Higgins) Barnes.
Marvin had worked for many years for Hartman Tobacco Co., Windsor, Conn., and then was employed by Bloomfield Public Schools, retiring in 1998.
Marvin is also survived by his children, Ervin Barnes of East Windsor, Conn., Chester Barnes and his wife, Denise, of Enfield, Conn., Melinda Farley and husband, Wesley, of South Windsor, Conn., Alan Barnes and wife, Kim, of Broad Brook, Conn., and Joel Barnes of East Windsor, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Barnes of Enfield, Conn.; a sister, Dawn Peters; and a brother, Stephen Barnes, both of Bangor; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Marvin was predeceased by a son, Larry L. Barnes; and a brother, Reginald L. Barnes.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner St., East Windsor, Conn. A calling hour will be held 6-7 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
