SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Due to construction of the new Veterans Memorial Bridge, the Exit 4 off ramp to the existing Veterans Memorial Bridge from I-295 Northbound will be closed during off-peak hours, from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. Detour signs will be posted to alert motorists.

The Route 1 ramp in South Portland which feeds into the existing Veterans Memorial Bridge will remain closed around the clock until Friday, May 4.

These necessary closures will allow construction crews to safely accommodate work on the south approach to the new Veterans Memorial Bridge while protecting the safety of all travelers.

Commuters are advised to plan ahead and allow more time to get to their destination.

Construction of the new bridge is currently on schedule and expected to open to traffic this summer, with the removal of the old bridge to be completed by the end of this year.
