ORONO, Maine — A University of Maine student who was caught driving drunk on campus last month and was barred by court order from possessing alcohol was arrested late Thursday for drinking, a university spokesman said Friday.

Taylor Gross, 19, of Hermon was charged with operating under the influence on March 30 when he was stopped on Rangeley Road and his blood alcohol was nearly three times the legal limit for those over the age of 21.

“He had bail conditions not to possess or consume alcohol,” Lisnet said.

Campus police were called to Somerset Hall for a report of underage drinking at 11:45 p.m. Thursday and found Gross intoxicated again, according to the UMaine spokesman.

His blood alcohol level was 0.17, more than double the state’s legal limit of 0.08 for those allowed to drink, Lisnet said.

Gross was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor for violating his bail conditions and also was charged with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, Lisnet said.

He later was released, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
