Fire departments battle fire at home on Brunswick peninsula

BDN staff reports

BRUNSWICK, Maine — A home on Merepoint peninsula was on fire Thursday evening.

According to a Brunswick police officer at the scene, the fire was reported approximately 7:14 p.m. Thursday by a Freeport resident who saw a house on the peninsula in flames. Merepoint is across Maquoit Bay from the Flying Point Road section of Freeport.

The officer said the home’s address was 41 West Marginal Road.

Fire departments from Brunswick, West Bath, Durham and Lisbon, among others, assisted in fighting the fire.

Firefighters had to create a staging area to supply water to the home, which is located at the end of the peninsula beyond access to the public water supply. Using tanker trucks, firefighters filled portable fire ponds to provide water for the hoses that were carried by firefighters down a long, winding gravel driveway to the house.

No more details were available late Thursday evening.
