LINCOLN, Maine — Town firefighters and Maine Forest Service rangers doused a wildfire that began Wednesday with a homeowner toasting marshmallows with his granddaughter and ended with some vinyl siding getting singed. No injuries were reported.
Maine Forest Ranger Sgt. Peter Pelletier reported that the fire in the Outer Broadway area began as a small campfire and leapt from it when the wind shifted about 4 p.m. Several feet of grass and brush were burned, he said.
The fire was one of nearly a dozen brush fires reported across Maine on Wednesday. Rangers warned that fire danger remains very high across the state, so residents should use extreme caution with any outdoor fires.
