Possible pitching matchup: Maine — LH Jonathan Balentina (1-0, 8.10 ERA, 8 Ks); Bates — RH Kevin McGregor (1-1, 6.75, 9)

Outlook: The Black Bears have their sights set on a 14th consecutive victory as they take on their third and final in-state Division III opponent of the season. UMaine and Bates have met 204 times dating to 1881. The Bears likely will find some time for freshman outfielders Brian Doran and Sam Balzano, both of whom have played sparingly of late, and spread out the pitching load among a handful of guys to keep the staff fresh for a four-game America East series at Binghamton. The Bobcats had lost four of five before posting a 20-7 nonleague victory over Curry on Tuesday. Bates, like Colby, plays in the New England Small College Athletic Conference and has a 1-5 league record. The Bobcats’ roster includes Lewiston’s Hyde and Jack Stacey of Bangor.
