I’ve looked in this spot a hundred times and never seen much wildlife hanging out, but a couple of weeks ago a juvenile American bald eagle was perched on a branch overhanging a cove on the Stillwater River in Old Town. I was returning from an outing at the Essex Street Marsh with a couple of images of some Mallard ducks, also pictured, when the young eagle appeared. Images seem to appear when you least expect it.
I’ve never been much for group trips, but as Deb would say “get out of your box and do it.” I did, and had a great time with some nice folks from the Fields Pond Audubon Center on a trip to the Golden Road area west of Baxter State Park. I was able to get photos of male (red) and female (yellow) white-winged crossbills a boreal chickadee (my first ever photo and sighting on that little guy). He looks like a black-capped chickadee only brown. A small flock of turkeys had greeted me at the Nature Center as I arrived at Fields Pond. It was a great adventure. I hope to be able to do it again some time.
I have more photos on my website to share, please feel free to visit.
