Bangor library book sale seeks volunteers, donations

By Ardeana Hamlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — The Friends of Bangor Public Library’s annual book sale will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the library.

The income from past Friends book sales have bought the benches and the bicycle rack outside the Children’s Room entrance, and for the past two years has purchased the library subscriptions to the online language learning program BYKI.

For 2012, the Friends group is exploring Freegal, a music lending program giving library users three free downloads a week that will work with any MP3 player, including iPod, can be loaded into iTunes and will work on both PCs and Macs. Freegal costs $7,800 a year.

Book donations may be dropped off at the library during regular library hours. Books should be clean and in good condition. Encyclopedias and Time-Life books will not be accepted.

Volunteers are needed to help sort the books for the sale. The work will begin Monday afternoon, May 6, and continue through Friday morning, May 12. For information, call Ginger Graham at 945-6883.
