LINCOLN, Maine — An intoxicated Medway man pulled into Walmart on Saturday morning and struck a parked car, then went inside to shop even after being confronted by a concerned citizen who reported him, Officer Mark Fucile said Monday.

Michael Legassey, 57, was driving a friend’s car when he attempted to park it at around 11:25 a.m. and hit the other car, the officer said.

“He got out of his vehicle and went right into Walmart shopping,” Fucile said.

When approached by police Legassey denied that he hit the neighboring vehicle, but the eyewitness and store video surveillance images tell a different story, the officer said.

Legassey was given an Intoxilyzer test and his blood alcohol level was 0.18, more than double the state’s legal limit of 0.08.

Legassey was charged with operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Legassey was 50 years old when he was convicted of accompanying a motor vehicle permittee while impaired and permitting unlawful use, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
