AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine relatives of a soldier severely wounded in Afghanistan are asking residents to send him birthday greetings via a Facebook page.

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills is married to Kelsey Buck Mills, who grew up in the Gardiner area. He suffered severe injuries in an explosion while on patrol on Tuesday. Travis Mills turned 25 on Saturday. The couple have a 6-month-old daughter.

The Kennebec Journal reports that Kelsey Buck Mills, who lives in Texas, also is the brother of Staff Sgt. Josh Buck, who serves in the same unit as the wounded man.

A Facebook page “Support for Travis Mills and Family” has updates about Mills’ condition and offers a way to donate $25 to help his family or to contribute to the Wounded Warrior Project, which aids families of wounded service personnel.
