BELFAST, Maine — The Colonial Theatre will turn 100 years old Thursday, April 12, and mark the date with events that include a plaque unveiling, a cake contest and a free showing of the Italian film “Cinema Paradiso.”
The birthday celebration for the local landmark that opened on the same day the Titanic left on its ill-fated maiden voyage will begin at 6 p.m. with comments from Mayor Walter Ash and other local officials. “Cinema Paradiso” will be shown at 7:30 p.m.
There also will be a continuous showing of the new documentary, “The John Grant Era at the Colonial Theatre,” about the 50 years that Grant and his family ran the theater, free popcorn, live music and more.
