Outlook: The series between UMaine and Colby College of Waterville dates back to 1881 and today’s matchup represents the 273rd meeting. The Black Bears look to continue their torrid hitting after amassing 76 hits and 76 runs in a four-game America East sweep at UMBC. UMaine mustered only four hits in last Wednesday’s 7-2 home win over Husson University of Bangor. The Bears will use the occasion to get needed work for their bullpen, including Morrill, Fran Whitten, Eric White of Brewer and Jon Balentina. The Division III Mules of the New England Small College Athletic Conference swept Brandeis 13-11 and 7-1 Saturday in a nonleague twinbill after dropping its previous four contests. Colby, coached by former UMaine pitcher Dale Plummer, comes in with a healthy .317 team batting average, averaging 7.2 runs per game. The Mules have a 5.80 team ERA.
