STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Betsey Hall Cooper, 83, passed away Feb. 27, 2012, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Rockland.
Miss Cooper received her bachelor’s degree from Gorham Teachers College and later earned a master’s degree at the University of Maine. She taught elementary school in Maine and New Jersey before moving to Michigan in 1956, where she taught in the Roseville Community schools for 29 years until retiring in 1985. Active in a wide variety of community organizations, Miss Cooper was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Eastpointe, Mich., was past state president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, longtime volunteer for American Cancer Society, a dedicated golfer, an enthusiastic sports fan and a cherished friend of many.
She was predeceased by her parents, Almon and Lenora; and brothers, Almon and Douglas. She is survived by nieces and nephews, David and wife, Christine Cooper, of Westerville, Ohio, Judy and husband, Arthur Crouse, of Dover, N.H., Ida and husband, Jeffrey Petersen, of Falls Church, Va., D. Keniston Cooper Jr. of Wiscasset, Laura and husband, Michael Chaney, and Olivia Cooper, all of Concord, N.H., and Jocelyn and husband, Larry Stover, of Topsham.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 23715 Gratiot Ave., one block south of Stephens, Eastpointe, Mich., with visitation 1 p.m. until the time of service in the church parlor.
