STANDISH, Maine — Police say a man driving drunk while on probation has crashed a stolen car into a historic building in Standish.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year-old Abraham Gammon was behind the wheel of a vehicle reported stolen from Cape Elizabeth earlier in the day at about 10 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control and struck the Marrett House.

The building had “substantial damage,” according to police, while the vehicle was totaled.

Gammon was injured and taken to Maine Medical Center.

He faces charges including aggravated criminal mischief, operating under the influence and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The Marrett House dates to 1796, according to the Historic New England website.
