Windham man seriously injured after hitting telephone truck

WINDHAM, Maine — A Windham man was seriously injured Tuesday morning when the vehicle he was driving veered into the rear of a boom truck owned by FairPoint Communications, according to police.

James Callaghan, 47, was eastbound on Route 302 just before 11:30 a.m. when his Subaru Forester struck the boom truck, which was performing line operations, according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Pallozzi, 49, a line worker for Fairpoint, was ejected from the boom truck and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the release.

Callaghan was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with severe injuries. His condition was unknown Wednesday morning, the release said. Pallozzi also was taken to Maine Medical Center and was treated and released.

The accident hindered traffic on Route 302 for several hours Tuesday.
