PORTLAND, Maine — Sen. Olympia Snowe will deliver what’s currently her last scheduled college commencement as a sitting senator to University of Southern Maine graduates in May.

Snowe, who shook up the political announcement with her decision not to seek a fourth term, is the fourth woman to be elected to both houses of Congress and the first woman to serve in both chambers of a state legislature as well as Congress. She has served in Congress for three decades.

The commencement will be held on May 12 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland.

USM President Selma Botman says Snowe embodies values that will “inspire our graduates and their families: integrity, hard work, and courage in defense of principle.”
