PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The first of a series of nine public forums featuring the six republican candidates for the U.S. Senate being vacated by Sen. Olympia Snowe kicks off Thursday, April 5 in Presque Isle.
The Maine Republican Party and GOPforME are hosting the GOPforME Forum, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center.
Hayes Gahagan, chairman of the Aroostook County Republican Committee, said the forum will allow County residents to ask questions and learn more about the candidates.
Senate candidates running in the June 12 GOP primary are former State Sen. Rick Bennett, small businessman Scott D’Amboise, state Sen. Debra Plowman, state Treasurer Bruce Poliquin, Maine Attorney General William Schneider and Maine Secretary of State Charlie Summers.
The remaining forums will be held around the state through Saturday, May 19. For the complete list of times, dates and locations, visit gopforme.com.
The forums are free and open to anyone, regardless of political party affiliation.
Gahagan said he believes Aroostook County Republicans have been generating a lot of activity and enthusiasm this campaign cycle.
Four candidates are vying for the Democratic nomination: former Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, State Sen. Cynthia Dill, State Rep. Jon Hinck and Portland home builder Benjamin Pollard.
Independent candidate Angus King, a former two-term governor, also is in the race.
