ORONO, Maine — A 19-year-old Hermon man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol early Friday morning on the University of Maine campus.

Taylor Gross was stopped for speeding just before 2 a.m. on Rangeley Road by a campus police officer, according to university spokesman Ron Lisnet.

Gross failed a field sobriety test and a test administered at the university police department revealed Gross had a blood alcohol level of 0.22, nearly three times the legal limit in Maine, Lisnet said.

Gross was charged with operating under the influence and taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor. He later was released on bail, according to Lisnet.
