HOULTON, Maine — The president of the Aroostook County Fire Chiefs Association is warning people about a telephone scam occurring in The County.

Troy Heald, president of the association, said Thursday that the group has heard that someone is calling residents requesting money on their behalf.

Heald said that the ACFCA does not solicit funds from the public and is not calling around asking people for money.

“As an association of fire chiefs from Aroostook County and western New Brunswick, we are dedicated to serving and improving the fire service industry in our region,” Heald said. “Funds are always welcome but funding for our operations come primarily from membership dues.”

Money secured by the association is used for the Learn Not To Burn educational program that teaches children fire safety behaviors.

Heald said that anyone who receives a call asking for funds should hang up and call the local fire department so that it can alert the association.
