SKOWHEGAN – Mabel Lee Nickerson, 70, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Woodlawn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Skowhegan. She was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Belfast, daughter of Chester and Teresa (Decrow) Nickerson.
Mabel grew up on the family farm in Brooks. She graduated from Morse Memorial High School, Brooks, in 1960, as valedictorian of her class. Mabel was very active in school activities including basketball, cheerleading and softball. She attended the University of Maine, Orono, and worked in banking in Boston. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Waterville, and especially enjoyed the church women’s group. Mabel enjoyed all kinds of handiwork such as knitting and crocheting, and visiting with family and friends.
She is survived by son, Daniel of North Dakota; brother, Donald and wife, Josephine, of Monroe; sister, June Hovey and husband, David, of Skowhegan; aunt, Cleona Decrow of Skowhegan; two nieces, Sharon Coolen and Teresa Nickerson; numerous cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the spring in Brooks at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may make donations in Mabel’s memory to a charity of their choice. Arrangements under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan.
