SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine — A local man was arrested twice in four days for alleged possession of stolen property, trespassing and violation of bail conditions.
Zachary R. Rand, 21, was being investigated for possible shoplifting in Southwest Harbor late last week when police said they discovered he was carrying a checkbook that did not belong to him, Chief David Chapais said Wednesday.
As a result, Rand was arrested Friday on charges of receiving stolen property and violation of bail conditions related to an earlier shoplifting case in Ellsworth. But Southwest Harbor police picked up Rand again on Tuesday night after he was found in a location where he was not allowed to be, Chapais said. He is now facing charges of criminal trespassing and additional charges of violating his bail conditions.
Chapais said Rand also is facing two burglary charges from incidents earlier this month in Southwest Harbor in which he is alleged to have stolen a flat-screen TV, tools and other household items.
He is being held at the Hancock County jail.
