Incumbents unseated in Warren Board of Selectmen vote

By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

WARREN, Maine — Voters elected two challengers Monday over a pair of incumbents to the Board of Selectmen.

Ed LaFlamme defeated incumbent Christine Wakely 181-169 and Michael York defeated incumbent Wayne Luce 177-173.

LaFlamme said he was running to have the town operate more in the open rather than in closed-door sessions. York said the town needed a strong board to counter a strong town manager.

LaFlamme had served two prior terms on the board. York serves on the planning board.

The issue of the proposed methadone clinic has been one of the hot topics in the town for the past 18 months and selectmen faced criticism early in the matter.

In voting for one seat on the SAD 40 Board of Directors, there were no names on the ballot. York and Sarah Robbins both received three write-in votes.

The annual town meeting in Warren is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Warren Community School.
