BANGOR, Maine — A woman drove her car into the Meadow Brook gully between the Hannaford grocery store parking lot and Arby’s near the Bangor Mall on Sunday.

“We don’t know how she wound up in this position,” Bangor fire Capt. Frank Rollins said from the scene. “She appeared to be unhurt.”

The car, driven by Xiuping Ladd, 46, of Bangor, broke through the wooden fencing around the parking lot at around noon and ended up stuck in the mud about 30 feet down the gully. She was examined by an ambulance at the scene but was not transported to the hospital, Bangor police Lt. Tom Reagan said later in the day.
