Four Maine soldiers leaving soon for Afghanistan

AUGUSTA, Maine — Four Maine Army National Guard soldiers with the 1968th Contingency Contracting Team have their deployment papers and soon will leave the state for the war zone in Afghanistan.

A send-off ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday at the State House Hall of Flags in Augusta.

“The mission of the 1968th … is to responsively contract for supplies, services and construction necessary to support humanitarian and combat missions by the U.S. military, coalition and Afghanistan forces,” Capt. Shanon Cotta, Maine National Guard spokesman, said in a press release.

Maj. Ken Bryant is the commander of the 1968th. Tuesday’s event is open to the public.
